Dr. Amy Mathiak grew up in Katy, Texas where her love for animals started at a very young age, with her pet rabbit named Brownie. In addition to loving animals, Amy was an avid soccer player and upon graduating High School she earned a scholarship to play soccer at Texas Tech University. While playing soccer at Texas Tech, she earned her undergraduate degree in Animal Science and then attended St. George’s University where she earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine before completing her clinical year at the University of Tennessee.
Dr. Mathiak married her college sweetheart Freddy Mitchell who was an officer in the U.S. Army. Freddy’s military career pulled her away from Texas to Savannah, Georgia for three years before returning to Texas when Freddy received orders to Fort Hood in 2018. Since then, Dr. Mathiak has worked as a relief veterinarian, associate veterinarian and served as a Medical Director at two hospitals in the Austin area before deciding to open Patriot Animal Hospital.
Within veterinary medicine, Dr. Mathiak has developed a special interest in dermatology, dentistry and preventive medicine as she believes these are fundamental aspects in ensuring our furry family members live long, healthy and happy lives.
Outside of work, Dr. Mathiak spends her time with her husband, two boys and their two dogs, Panzer and Baz, and their orange tabby Jerry. Dr. Mathiak and her family are faithful Christians and active members at Upwards Church in Leander.
